About the Internet for Mobile Devices.
The promise of “surfing
the web” from your mobile device (web-enabled cell phone or WiFi enabled PDA)
has been around for a while. Early incarnations suffered from expensive
monochrome text-based clients and poor acceptance and implementation from web
site owners. This has changed. Now both cell phones and PDA have impressive
graphical displays, prices are down on the devices and services and cyber cafes
and Wi-Fi hot spots are appearing everywhere.
What does this mean to the small and medium sized business or organization?
To answer this question we need to consider the devices and how and where they
will be used. Because mobile devices have small display areas and that they
tend to have much lower Internet connection speeds than desktops, information
must be much more concise than on traditional websites and the use of images
and Flash greatly curtailed. Customers will probably still use their desktops
to research purchases, download software, and send and receive email. Yes, you
can do all of this from most mobile devices, but it is much easier and
convenient to do it from a desktop. Mobile devices are best suited to tasks
that can be done easily from a small device being used in public. Such as
locating stores and restaurants, checking email, and checking status (eBay
auction, sports scores and the weather).

A call to action
So the answer for the small and medium business or organization is not to
abandon your traditional website or convert it to be accessible to a mobile
device, but to provide mobile users with a subset of your complete website.
This subset needs to sell your business or organization, provide concise
information, be easy to find and be accessible for the myriad of mobile devices
on the market. RedRockWin.com can help you achieve these goals.
